IO Interactive sure is busy. They have officially announced they are working on a new “online fantasy RPG” project.
This will be a new IP, currently dubbed Project Fantasy. From the announcement page, IO is taking a lot inspiration from tabletop RPGs, including the Fighting Fantasy books.
“This idea – that a diverse group of individuals with different skills and strengths can work together and become more than the sum of their parts – is what inspires us. It inspires the fantasy world we are building – and it inspires how we build it,” the statement on the site reads.
IOI now has three studios (Copenhagen, Malmö and Barcelona) and all of them will be working on this new IP in some capacity.
IOI has just launched the new Freelancer mode for Hitman World Of Assassination (the rebranded Hitman 3), and is also working on a new James Bond game. Moving forward, we should expect the team behind Hitman to explore new worlds more than just hitting targets with a homing briefcase. Exciting times.
