Prolific game designer Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames later this year.
Announced on PlatinumGames’ Twitter, and confirmed by Kamiya himself, he will be parting from the company he co-founded on October 12.
“We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day,” the official announcement from Platinum reads.
“We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavors as a game creator”.
On leaving Platinum, Kamiya tweeted: “This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs, and was by no means an easy decision to make.
“However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way”.
Kamiya built his reputation as a game director for games such as Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Okami. At PlatinumGames, he spearheaded the Bayonetta series- now a staple character action game on Switch- and The Wonderful 101.
Kamiya was leading a team at Platinum to create Platinum’s first fully-owned IP, Project G.G. Hopefully the project continues on with the director’s departure. And hopefully this is not the last time we hear of Kamiya leading a video game project as well.
