PlatinumGames Teases Its First Fully-Owned IP: Project G.G.

PlatinumGames is on a roll in 2020. After announcing plans to self-publishing, they went off with a bang with the reveal of the Platinum 4- a series of four game announcements. The first of which was the remaster for The Wonderful 101 coming to Switch, PS4, and PC.

Now, they have announced the second of the Platinum 4, and the first of two new IP fully-owned by Platinum: codename Project G.G.

Directed by Hideki Kamiya (who also directed The Wonderful 101), Project G.G. is described as “the powerful climax to the Hideki Kamiya superhero trilogy”. Presumably, that would be referring to The Wonderful 101 and, probably, Viewtiful Joe- a pre-Platinum action game featuring a sentai hero directed by Kamiya.

Project G.G. looks like something like Ultraman. Giant hero versus giant monsters battling in the middle of a city. Here’s a teaser trailer for the game:

Platinum is going big with their first IP to call their own. Literally. We shall see how the fabled character action developers can put a spin to the giant hero genre.
