Helldivers 2 Had A Big (And Rough) Launch

Helldivers 2 launched last week on February 8, and looks like everyone is doing their part to spread managed democracy. Arrowhead has struck big with their latest game, but like most multiplayer games, it hasn’t been a smooth ride for the players.

According to SteamDB, multiplayer shooter is currently, four days after launch, is the top-selling game on Steam with a peak concurrent player count on PC at over 155,000 players.

Helldivers 2, being the first PlayStation Studios game to launch on console and PC simultaneously, also had a rough launch. Like most multiplayer games during the launch window, Helldivers 2 suffer from a couple of technical issues, including server disruption.

In the first days of launch, multiplayer matchmaking (quickplay) was unable to find matches. A hotfix and a large patch at around 1GB size were issued to address this, which resulted in matchmaking being able to find matches rather quickly.

However, it still produces errors where it fails to join the lobby.

Matchmaking with friends has been flawless. If you have someone online on your friends’ list and their lobby is set to public, the game has no issue connecting you to them.

Currently, the servers are undergoing maintenance. For us in the GMT+8 timezone, this disruption has been going on from the Sunday night- hours earlier before the tweet from the official account confirmed what’s going on- and it still is at the time of writing.

Hopefully the live team can sort out the issues before the next weekend or risk ruining the momentum. So far, plenty of players have enjoyed discovering the specific peculiarities Helldivers 2 offers as a multiplayer co-op shooter not seen in mainstream games, like how friendly fire is always on.

Helldivers 2 is out now on PS5 and PC.
