A new year, a new content update for Gran Turismo 7. There was no new update in December (the effort was put to the release of the free demo My First Gran Turismo), so it’s nice to see the usual car additions continue three years since release.
No new tracks unfortunately, as expected, but there are four new cars for you to have a drive in. Two of which was revealed and featured during the GT World Series finals: the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the Gran Turismo F35000-A.
The former is Hyundai’s performance EV. It may look big and ungainly but apparently the car can go sideways in the hands of the Drift King himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya.
The latter is a fictional car based on an early 90’s Formula 1 car. So a bit later than than the all-dominating McLaren F1 MP4/4, still the only licensed F1 car in GT7. The F3500-A would sure look good in white, blue and yellow. Maybe even in Rosso Corsa.
The other two are road cars that fits that Gran Turismo spirit of featuring mundane, everyday cars. There’s another Honda Civic by way of the Honda Civic Si Extra, a fourth-gen Civic for those who believe in generations and the oldest Civic in GT7. All the pre-2000 Civics are hatchbacks, and so is this one. At first glance, the seemingly long wheelbase makes it look like a station wagon (which does exist), or a crossover.
Speaking of crossovers, rounding the list is the Toyota CH-R. A crossover (somewhere between the size and practicality of a large SUV and a middling size MPV), the car was once sold in not just in Japan but also in Southeast Asia. But it’s rare to see these in Malaysian roads, where locals prefer the Honda HR-V. You can find plenty of Ioniq 5s on the streets though, maybe not the N variant, but EVs are on the up and up here.
