The only normal genre-based game award here and it is as it says
Merry Christmas! This is the most ordinary of the award categories so far being it’s the only one based on a game genre. A niche, dying, genre, unfortunately. Still, there’s enough good to great games out there this year and yes, we doubled checked and ensure each of these games are out this year this time.
Onrush could have been a strong contender. The arcade racer that’s not really about racing has impressive performance and graphics plus one of the best photo mode ever. But its limited release (it’s not available in Asia) and the unfortunate demise of the developers (again) leaves us wanting more. The Crew 2 is here solely because it’s the only new open world racer available on PS4, but its ongoing support is still commendable and deserve applause.
Wreckfest is a nice surprise being a demolition derby game where you get to wreck cars with mod support on PC. Burnout Paradise Remastered, a ten-year-old open world racer, managed to still be a great game, which is an indication of the genre as a whole right now.
At the end of the day, this one’s an easy win for the best open world racing game series out there. The latest entry to Forza Horizon, Forza Horizon 4. It has all of the best aspects from all of the open world racing games and racing games in general. And it is also let you have fun with its odd selection of cars. Who doesn’t want to upgrade the little car that is the Peel P50 so it can have a motorcycle engine on three wheels?
Congratulations!
