Gamescom Asia 2022 Announced, Will Be Open To Public

Gamescom Asia will be returning in 2022. The gaming trade show and satellite event to Gamescom will host its second event as a hybrid physical-online event, but this time the doors will be open to the public as well as games industry people.

Last year, all the B2B meetings and events are held physically in Singapore whereas the consumer-facing events were all held as online livestreams.

For 2022, there will be a physical Entertainment Zone open for the general public to visit, as well as a larger Trade Zone and Conference area. Organisers Koelnmesse expects to see the event attracting 15,000 total visitors and over 100 exhibitors from Asia Pacific and beyond.

“It is the year for gaming events as Gamescom and Gamescom Asia restart their physical formats, once again welcoming visitors to the show floor,” said Mathias Kuepper, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Singapore, the organisers of Gamescom Asia.

“We are very excited to bring back a festival atmosphere, of course within safe and calculated measures as we are not yet out of the pandemic, but overall, the enthusiasm has been evident amongst the community and industry.”

This is due to the relaxing of Covid-19 safe management measures in Singapore, where the event is hosted. Borders have been reopened on April 1, requiring no quarantine period for all fully vaccinated travellers and with no designated travel lanes for select countries.

The Entertainment Zone will have various activities which include live shows, meet and greets with creators, and also cosplay contests, all in the works subject to local Covid-19 guidelines.

But you can also expect the Primetime and Studio livestreams to still be available online for the global audience. The Primetime show acts as a pre-event teaser, showcasing games that are part of the show floor.

On the games industry side, you can expect the Trade Zone to be bigger with the ease of travel restrictions this year. Expect to see a mix of country pavilions featuring games ranging from AAA scale to indies. Exhibitor talks, talent drives and face-to-face meeting opportunities will be available.

Gamescom Asia 2022 will take place in Singapore from October 20-23. That’s two months after Gamescom 2022, set to be held in Cologne, Germany from August 24-28.
