Here’s a complete surprise. Frontier Developments, of Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster fame, has secured the license to make an official F1 management sim.
The deal will see Frontier making F1 management sims for consoles and PCs by 2022.
“F1 is one of the most popular global sporting franchises in the world,” said David Braben, Chief Executive at Frontier. “And we believe the combination of the F1 brand together with our extensive experience in management games will deliver fantastic game experiences to a wide and varied audience around the world.”
There is already F1 Manager on mobile developed by Hutch, but that’s more of a gacha game than a full-on management sim. But this sounds like, based on the scant details so far, a proper F1 management sim. Motorsport Manager but with an official F1 license.
Frontier has shown a visible passion for F1 in the past. In Planet Coaster, one of the template racing theme park has a go-kart layout that, should you connect the dots, produces the Monaco Grand Prix track. A cheeky easter egg that there should be a few passionate folks in the company.
