Free-To-Play Open World Game Project Mugen Now Known As Ananta

Just what in the open world is Ananta? This new game was previously known as Project Mugen, and is being developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase Games.

Ananta is a free-to-play open world game, set in Nova City. But get this, you can traverse the world via car like it’s Grand Theft Auto, but also just swing around using a grappling hook of sorts like it’s Marvel Spider-Man. But all with the appealing aesthetic of anime.

It’s clearly a free-to-play game designed for the larger AGC fans, or rather, fans who play Hoyoverse games. There’s plenty of pretty characters and character-action-style action.

What really makes Ananta impressive at first glance is just the sheer scope of it. There are stealth sequences where the character crouches on load-bearing beams above enemy patrol and can drop crates on them. There are full-on racing in cars with itasha liveries (of course). You can pump up the weights at a gym, play darts, shoot some hoops at the basketball court. Ask a pedestrian nicely to let go of their vehicle for you take command. They weren’t kidding around when they previously call this game Project Mugen. Mugen is the Japanese word meaning “limitless” or “infinite”.

The trailer even used licensed music.

In Ananta, you play as an elite agent as part of the Anti-Chaos Directorate (A.C.D.) in Nova City. The city is being plunged into chaos, which range from silly toilets running around to outright spooky phenomena. Ananta will offer a blend of adventure, mystery and comedy in its urban playground.

Ananta, like many free-to-play RPGs of its kind, allows players to pre-register to be notified when the game’s ready. And there’s over 6 million that have did.

Ananta has no release date yet.
