For Honor, Ubisoft’s melee combat game that looked promising, had a rough time keeping their players interested. In its early months of release the fanbase has not been happy with the way the game handles its netcode- relying only on peer-to-peer connections- and the way cosmetics are earned. And if the reports are true, the playerbase has been diminishing ever since, a bad sign for a multiplayer-focused game.
As always, Ubisoft isn’t stopping development and has outlined a roadmap on what they will be working for the next two game seasons. Aside from adding more content in the form of maps, heroes, gear and cosmetics, there will be adding new features.
Coming in the next season will be a new Duel tournament feature, which should help get the interest of competitive players (or players who want to play For Honor as a straight-up fighting game), and some changes to the fighting system will be tested out on PC. The changes should make attacks less risky and defences less safe.
The season after that, which starts around November, we will see a new tutorial and a training mode and a new 4v4 PVP mode. Sometime around this, the game will be migrating to use dedicated servers.
Is it too little too late? Who knows. Rainbow Six Siege managed to be in a good spot despite a rough launch. But at least the game continues to be heading in a good direction, even after its former lead Jason VandenBerghe has left the company.
