It’s April 1 today and Sega just dropped The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog, a free game on Steam. It’s a whodunnit point-and-click adventure/visual novel where you must investigate the murder of the blue blur who, among the rest of the Sonic cast, was celebrating Amy Rose’s birthday on a train.
The Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog features fully hand-drawn landscapes and characters, and may or may not be canon. It’s not developed by Sonic Team, however, but by the folks that run the legendary Sonic The Hedgehog socials.
This is the sort of April Fools prank that’s fun and funny. Less about misleading folks about something or making a joke out of a thing that folks might want to exist. And more about committing to a bit without causing harm to others. The Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog is a real game and you can play it now.
This isn’t the first time Sega released a silly game on a silly day. In 2019, the folks at Amplitude, a developer under Sega known for the Endless series of games and more recently Humankind, released a visual novel based on Horatio from Endless Space.
In other news, Hyenas the upcoming shooter from Creative Assembly (also under Sega) revealed a character that murders people while cosplaying as Sonic.
