Square Enix brought something new to the PlayStation Showcase 2023, and it’s not the rumoured remake of another Final Fantasy game, but a new multiplayer shooter called Foamstars.
The 4v4 PVP online shooter sees characters equip various weaponry to paint the map not with paint, but foam.
And as foams have volume- as in they can raise higher than the surface, foams in the arena can be used as vantage points or a way to surf and glide around the map to get in and out of combat quickly.
Pair that with a very vibrant, pop, streetwear style, and it’s hard not to see this as Square Enix’s attempt to recreate the magic of Nintendo’s Splatoon. Do you want to be a Foamstar?
The aesthetic, despite having similar ingredients to be compared to Splatoon, is being riffed on in an entirely different way. The music in this trailer is more jazzy than expected and it’s a bopper.
Foamstars has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PS4 and PS5.
