After a release date reveal and then a delay, Far Cry 6 now has a release date again. The new entry to Ubisoft’s long-running open-world series will have you deposing a dictator of the fictional Caribbean island of Yara.
Far Cry 6 casts you as Dani Rojas (who you can customise, including their gender), a military dropout who really just wants to leave the island. But that leads to them forming a revolution against the tyranny of Presidente Anton Castillo.
The bits of gameplay (revealed after a 30-minute countdown because hey gotta hype up a reveal livestream, right?) are revealed through character trailers and narration by the developers.
The meaty showcase of Far Cry 6 gameply comes from this trailer below. In here, you see the many activities you can do in the guerilla outposts, the variety of vehicles you can use (from souped up vintage cars with nitros to horses) and the weaponry.
While you can use normal guns, the fun comes from the crafted weapons, which makes Far Cry 6 stands out from the rest of the series. Some of the crafted weapons include nail guns, miniguns powered by a motorcycle engine, and a disc launcher that can shoot CDs of Hey Macarena at lethal speeds.
That’s not all, the weapon arsenal expands to the backpack you can equip. These Supremo backpacks can bring something new to the gunfight. One has a bunch of metal pipes that also shoot missiles. Another gives you the gas to fire flamethrowers. There’s also what seems to be a jetpack on display too.
Another interesting detail is how many of the scenes are not played in the first person. You do get to see Dani a lot on screen, and there are shots from the third-person perspective. We’ll see if these shots are just promotional angles or also new inclusion for this entry.
Far Cry 6 now is expected to release on October 7 for PS4, PS5, PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
