NetEase Games and developer Legendary Star Studio announced a new game at Tokyo Game Show 2022. Titled Ashfall, it’s an MMORPG third-person shooter coming to PC and mobile devices.
The game is set in a post-apocalypse but set in the eastern parts of the world rather than the west or down under. Players take the role of Wanderers, who leave the safety of the Vault to go out into the dangerous lands in hopes to find the Core Of Creation.
Wait, isn’t this just Fallout?
Apparently, the devs at Legendary Star Studio are fans of post-apocalypse games, in particularly Fallout. So much so that for Ashfall’s soundtrack they got Inon Zor, the composer of Bethesda’s Fallout series to be a composer for the game alongside Hollywood composers Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro.
Where Ashfall differs is that it’s based on an Eastern land, something you rarely associate with the post-apocalypse theme. The neon signs in Chinese seen on a dilapidated building covered in sand, seen in the gameplay footage, are a rare sight.
Rather intriguingly, the choice name Ashfall has come into controversy. New developer Liithos, founded by ex-PlayStation developers, have previously announced a PvPvE game also named Ashfall, and has claimed to pitch the game to NetEase previously.
Ashfall, the one by Legendary Star Studio, is heading to PC via Steam and will also be available on iOS and Android sometime in 2023.
