Elden Ring Nightreign, the standalone multiplayer co-op PVE game by FromSoftware is out now.
If you ever wanted to play a FromSoft soulslike that’s purely co-op, not just summoning friends and strangers to help in a boss fight, then Nightreign might be what you’re looking for.
The game carries over the gameplay feel of 2022 action-RPG soulslike, but condensed into a three-wave battle royale format (though purely PVE, no PVP) with some roguelike sprinklings on top.
Set in the new setting of Limveld, players take on 12 preset characters, the Nightfarers, each with unique abilities and ultimate attacks. Though you are free to equip whatever weapon you may find as you explore and level up through the open world as you prepare for night falls, when a boss fight will happen. Survive until night three and face the Nightlord.
Nightreign supports up to three players in a team, but does not have cross-play.
FromSoftware are exploring with multiplayer games between this and the upcoming The Duskbloods, a Switch 2 exclusive title releasing next year.
While there’s a launch trailer for Nightreign, Bandai Namco US also released what’s more or less an official AMV to the tune of Evanescence’s Bring Me Back To Life, something you would see in actual fan-made AMV in the halcyon days of YouTube (before copyright is much more enforced). For those that were not around back then, AMV (anime music videos) are the 2000s equivalent of today’s TikTok music edits.
If you ever need a res when you’re down but not out, just sing the chorus of Bring Me Back To Life in voice chat. The lyrics somehow works in this context.
Elden Ring Nightreign is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
