Elden Ring Nightreign Has 3.5 Million Total Players In Five Days, Duos And Harder Bosses Coming Soon

Elden Ring Nightreign, the standalone multiplayer spin-off to Elden Ring, has over 3.5 million players within the first five days of launch.

That’s quite the number of players for a game no one really expected to happen, though it is noticeably a lower turnout compared to last year’s Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring, which sold five million copies in just three days.

Still, developer FromSoftware has more to offer for this radical multiplayer spin to a soulslike, promising the addition of a duos mode for two-player parties, and “enhanced fights against existing Nightlords”, which essentially means tougher difficulty option for the already tough end-of-run bosses.

Nightreign will also receive DLC later this year. The Digital Deluxe edition of the game will receive “an additional DLC that includes additional Nightfarers and bosses,” set to release in Q4 2025.

While Nightreign’s twist to a soulslike roguelike by way of battle royale and extraction (and to some extent, MOBAs, if you think of how the level growth aspects and run length can feel) is good fun, but not without issues. For multiplayer game released in 2025, it surprisingly lacks cross-play. And the game didn’t ship with support for two-player parties at launch, those who just prefer to team up with one buddy and not have a third wheeler join via matchmaking.

The matchmaking woes seems to have somewhat alleviated after the release of the first game update, which also added balance changes to make solo play more viable.

Elden Ring Nightreign is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
