DOOM Eternal in 4k on RTX 3080 is A Monster To Behold

With the release of new Nvidia 3000 series GPU upcoming soon, many of us gamers wants to see its real claimed power compared to the previous architecture. Wait no longer as Nvidia premiered a DOOM Eternal gameplay demo of the RTX 3080, in 4K maximum setting no less.

The RTX 3080 was compared against RTX 2080 Ti with framerates as metric. RTX 3080 just chews the 2080 Ti with significantly higher framerates. In the duration of the demo, the 3080 maintained a consistent 100-120 fps with some rare dips to high 90s and occasional bump to 130+ fps while the 2080 Ti just managing to sustain 90s-100s fps range.

At least within context of DOOM Eternal and gaming in general, expect around 15-20% better performance against 2080 Ti. If that number seems small, look at the context of flagship 2080 Ti launch price was $999 (Std)-$1199 (Founders) compared to 3080’s $699 launch price. More performance for almost half-price.

The new Ampere architecture is certainly a massive jump in price-performance ratio as announced in launch spec. Jensen Huang especially assures Pascal 1000-series users that it is a good time to upgrade. Kind of shadowing a hint of admittance that the Pascal to Turing generation was not a significant leap in performance paired with expensive but barely used RTX cores.
