Here’s a cool pitch. Most western RPGs/immersive sims have the trifecta of gameplay choice: combat, stealth and conversation. Now, what if that RPG is a top-down CRPG ala classic Fallouts, Pillars Of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin. And what if everything you do revolves not in combat, but conversations?
Disco Elysium answers those questions. Developed by Zaum Studios, this game is an RPG through and through. You still have a character sheet and skills to learn, but all of them relate to your mind. Skill checks are aplenty, with many choices and ways to approach a problem. Items and gear can also be acquired and equipped. It still feels like a CRPG, just don’t expect a combat system.
You play as a detective who completely lost his memories after a nasty hangover. However, your approach to investigations is totally up to you. Be the good cop that sweet talk their way to get leads. Or the bad cop that won’t stop at anything to close the case.
Disco Elysium is out now on PC via Steam for RM65 and GOG.
