Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo And Corvette CX Concept Cars Announced, Coming To Gran Turismo 7

Two new cars are coming to Gran Turismo 7. Announced at The Quail, the annual car show held in Monterrey, California, USA, there will be two new concept cars added to the racing game, created by American marque Chevrolet.

The first is a the Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo. This is a track weapon based on the other announced car, the Corvette CX. This car features a hybrid V8 twin-turbo powertrain to ensure “driving performance and range required in endurance racing”.

This could be the Chevy to run in Gr.1 races with, an original concept car will have to do as parent company General Motors splits its motorsport efforts between Chevrolet and Cadillac. The former is in GT3 racing and Indycar whilst the latter does racing on the (perceived or otherwise) higher ends of the motorsports ladder including the LMDh program and the upcoming F1 team. As such, there’s no real Chevrolet car to derive a Gr.1 race car from, which is based on the top-end endurance racing prototypes.

The other car is the Corvette CX Concept. This is Chevrolet’s vision of a hypercar: Corvette-shaped, albeit evolved from the latest C8 generation, but also a bit more low-key. Quiet. The news post on the game’s official site seemingly afraid to call this 2000hp (derived from four electric motors) car for what it is, an EV.

Given its presence at a real car show, there are full-scale models of the two cars.

Chevrolet joins the illustrious line of car (and non-car) manufacturers to produce a concept car exclusive to Gran Turismo. Though this isn’t the first time the brand brought a concept car of sorts into the series. Back in 2012, the Corvette C7 was first released as free DLC for Gran Turismo 5, still camouflaged, as a teaser for the actual vehicle that went into production in 2014.

The fans that still play Gran Turismo 7 on the regular, folks who do a lot of online racing, have gone irate over the recent months of free content updates adding more and more regular crossovers rather than race cars or cool sports and hyper cars, which is understandable. So the confirmation of a two cool new cars, even if they are concept cars and one is an EV, should give some hope that the additions in the coming months should have something to look forward to.

On the topic of EVs, Gran Turismo also confirm the introduction of Xiaomi. The Chinese electronics company that once used to do flash sales for powerbanks are now making EVs, and the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is expected to arrive in Gran Turismo 7 in an upcoming update.

Gran Turismo 7 is out now on PS4 and PS5.
