During the February State Of Play broadcast, Remedy Entertainment showed a new gameplay trailer to the recently revealed Control Resonant, the sequel to 2019’s excellent shooter Control.
Now a character action game featuring a new protagonist Dylan Faden (brother to the previous game’s protagonist Jesse), Control Resonant is set in reshaped Manhattan, where the world looks big, but also trippy.
The West Incursion Zone that we see here is filled with “side activities, hidden encounters and optional discoveries,” but the press release stops short from calling it an open world. Maybe an open field. But it’s not just plain landscapes. We see Dylan walking on the wall of a skyscraper before hopping off. Close enough, welcome back, Gravity Rush.
While Control Resonant is now a melee action game instead of a shooter, it retains that RPG-ish elements from the predecessor. Health points and damage points are visible. Dylan’s shape-shifting melee weapon, the Aberrant, can be customised in what abilities and talents it has, something that will unlock as you progress further in the game.
And some of these abilities are rewards for beating the toughest bosses in the game, the titular Resonants.
Control Resonant will be self-published by Remedy themselves, but it is co-produced and co-financed alongside Annapurna Pictures.
Control Resonant hasn’t locked in a specific release date yet, but it’s coming to PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S.
