Codemasters has revealed via Twitter that Codemaster Cheshire is now working with Criterion Games on the next Need For Speed game. Not only that, they are officially “forming one Criterion studio with two location hubs”.
“This integration builds off the close partnership the two studios have developed over the past few months,” the follow-up tweet reads.
Codemasters Cheshire is the remnants of what used to be the Evolution Studios. As Evo, the developer was previously a Sony first-party working on the Motorstorm series and Driveclub (which still has one of the greatest weather effects in a video game). As Codemasters Cheshire, the studio dabbled in various arcade racers, with mixed results, like the underrated Onrush, as well as the primary team behind the off-road racer Dirt 5.
Codemasters is now under EA, and now that EA is bringing the responsibility of the Need For Speed series back to Criterion, which has spent years as only a support studio contributing to the Battlefield games, they could use all the talent they can get.
There has yet to be no word on what exactly the next Need For Speed game is, but it’s supposedly coming soon.
