For an acquisition of a Racing Game developer, this has more twists than the usual thriller would bring. Electronic Arts has bought over Codemasters in a coup-style acquisitions for the price of 1.2 Billon Dollars, making Take-Two’s recent bid a failure.
This transaction will commences sometime in the early part of 2021 and will expands EA’s existing list of racing titles (Burnout, Need For Speed and Real Racing), as Codemasters holding not only the F1 license, but the WRC one as well.
It will also mark a return of an old publisher for Codie’s own recent acquirement, Slightly Mad Studios. They parted ways after a difficult development with NFS Shift 2.
Interesting to see how this one goes. The F1 games still have some untapped potential in them and perhaps the Online aspect would be improved in the future. Only time will tell.
