Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sold A Million Copies In Three Days

It has now become clear that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is no obscure game. Developer Sandfall Interactive’s debut has sold 1 million copies in the first three days, half of which came on day-1 of release

And that’s copies, not players. The game is available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch, but looks like even without the adding the numbers of subscribers of those services which helps bolster player number metrics, there’s already a million players embarking on this expedition.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Epoque aesthetic world with a compelling premise, as we break down in detail of the game’s prologue.

With its realistic visuals, and its fresh take on reactive turn-based battles, it has caught the eyes of many, in particular those who filtered out the many turn-based RPGs that’s been releasing the past few years.

Expedition 33 isn’t a bold ushering of long-forgotten gameplay mechanic, but it’s still worth praising that the game has certainly changed many who had the opinion that turn-based games are old-school or catering to a specific niche. Turn-based combat is cool, always is.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscriptions.
