Civilization VI’s season pass, the New Frontier Pass, will be getting new content this month, right on schedule as the previously revealed roadmap revealed.
Ethiopia will be the next civilization added as part of the Ethiopia Pack DLC. The new developer update video teased them a bit but expect the usual First Look video to reveal the civ in full. The leader won’t be Haile Selassie like in Civ V, it looks like.
The New Frontier Pass will also add the second extra game mode following Apocalypse- Secret Societies. In this mode, you can permanently enter a secret society which gives you access to unique building replacements, new units, a unique governor and different buffs. The societies showcased are the following:
- The Owls Of Minerva (espionage, bank replacement that gives bonus culture)
- Hermetic Order (science, Ley Lines that gives adjacency bonuses, university replacement that gives more Great People Points)
- The Voidsingers (religion, monument replacement that gives extra faith and Great Work slots, new cultist unit that can reduce city loyalty)
- The Sanguine Pact (vampires, vampire units that don’t die, vampire castles can be built in any empty tile and provide defence bonuses)
Yes, you can choose to explicitly worship the eldritch horror in this game mode, complete with green and black auras. Vampires are cool too.
The Ethiopia Pack DLC also includes a new district every civ can construct: The Diplomatic Quarter.
Owners of the New Frontier Pass will also get the new Persona Packs for Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine De Medici. These are not just cosmetic skins, but they are halfway from being completely new civ leaders as they have different leader bonuses than the normal ones.
For instance, Rough Rider Teddy has a bonus where a city-state with an Envoy sent to it and have trade route to them counts as two Envoys, and gains the Rough Rider unique unit.
Magnificence Catherine doubles down on culture by way of encouraging you to hoard extra copies of luxury resources. She can make the Court Festival project at any city with a Theater Square that generates extra culture and tourism based on how many excess copies of luxury resource you have.
The Ethiopia Pack DLC will be released on July 24 and can be purchased on its own for RM22 on Steam. The New Frontier Pass for Civilization VI is available on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
