Before we dive into the panel talk, let’s all first bask in Studio Trigger OP in Malaysia 2017 (disclaimer warning: I do not own any video here)
This is the face of the director of the Studio Trigger (Decent camera quality but hey, better than nothing)
Let us dive straight up to the panel.
Saito-san said that he brought 3 new PV of the upcoming anime that will be aired in 2018. Sadly, I did not record the PV (shame on me).
Summarising the PV are :
A collaboration between Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures (SAO studio) for an anime titled: DARLING in the FRANXX.

Moving forward, we have a series where the director is really pumped and hype for PROMARE.
After being spoiled like a child with these PVs, the QnA session begins.
Q1. “I would like to ask about the previous PV, PROMARE, does the anime gonna follow the same status quo as Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann regarding the anime genre such as Mechs, Fights, and etc ?”
Saito-san replied, “If the story is the thing that you guys interested in, I guess it is safe to expect what you’re expecting.”
Q2. “I have a question regarding the anime My Little Witch Academia where the so-so plot in the anime where the existence of 9-order wishes. Who are they and what are they based off?”
Kazuya-san: “Saito-san, do you know?”
Kengo-san:“No”
Kazuya-san: “Um, I could say that there are 9 titles of Traditional Mahou Shojo. They are based on them.”
Q3. “Will you guys do another crowdfunding for your next project as for how you guys did with My Little Witch Academia?”.
Kazuya-san replied “there is a lot of business path in early 2017 but we decided to do crowdfunding. There are lots of great websites to promotes the promotional video. At first, we search on how fans can support the video and there was also a lot of request from fans to use Patreon for Studio Trigger. I do have the draft for Patreon and all I have to do is push the launch button. However, I’m currently waiting for spanky illustration.”
Q4. “It’s been 10 years after the series was the first release. If you wanted to change the ending, how would you want Simon’s story to end?”
Kazuya-san replied instantly “we won’t change anything since you’re not the first person who asks this. However, do take in mind that this answer is what we are provided with the original team of Gurren Lagann. We believe that the current ending is a must and we feel strong about that Gurren Lagann is one of our great anime”
Q5. “Kill la Kill ended very well where it actually ended on a good note/ a very positive note. But, if you had the money and resources to make a season two of Kill la Kill. Would you do it ?”
Kazuya-san replied “we have been talking with the head director of the company about this and of course if only we have money. We tried to draft and think about it but the genre is about a slice of life or a story for the supplementary character.”
Q6. “Do you have any idea how to get into anime production industry? I do not have basic skills in animation and stuff but I have great skills in adding translation or subtitles.”
“Simple way is to study abroad in Japan. In Malaysia, there is a company linked with Japan and they opened a booth today. Try to talk to them to get as much as possible to get more information on this” said Kazuya-san.
Q7. “My question is about the upcoming anime, Darling in the Franxx. How do you decide the animation style, will it be done in Trigger’s style or A1-Pictures’ style?”
Masumoto-san replied “I think Trigger will handle animation style as our mecha’s robot look so much cooler. To be honest, I never met with A1-Pictures’ animator’s team yet so ~~ hahaha”
Q8. “Another My Little Witch Academia question, what is the theme for this particular anime or the main idea upon how the anime existed in the first place?”
Kazuya-san replied “the main theme is reflecting the current theme in anime industry which is specifically requested by the head director himself. There is nothing we can do about that. The Japanese anime industry is up for almost 60 years. There is a lot of young animators joining the industry every year with very high hopes and dreams but the reality is more than hopes and dreams. For example, we take Ako, the main character from My Little Witch Academia, we could see that she is receiving help a lot by herself which is similar to animators where anime is not a thing that you could do alone.”
Q9. “Will Gridman get a reboot or the anime is similar to Super Secret Superhero Society?”
Kazuya-san state that “the anime is close to a reboot as our Director Amemiya is a great fan of Gridman and we may actually do take the SSSS from Super Secret Superhero Society.”
Q10. “Will there any chances that we gonna see a new season of Panty and Stoking in the future?”
Kazuya-san replied with “that anime is been up for almost 7 years now. If we’re up to make an event, probably will tease it maybe 3 years from now. Also, I’m really curious, do you guys interested in season 2 of it?”
“YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH~!” – crowd
Q11. “What is the character of your work that you could relate the most to? “
Masumoto-san and Kazuya-san deeply sigh. Kazuya-san later replied with “I look up to Satsuki as I’m a male, she has a really bold personality and I loved it. Adding up to people in our entertainer’s team as they’re someone whom I really respect due to long-term cooperation.”
Q12.“Your thoughts on collaboration between Studio Trigger and A1-Pictures. Plus, what’s your thoughts about anime Anohana but with mechs?”
Kazuya-san replied instantaneously “at first we request a collaboration with A1-Pictures’ director as the A1-Director made an anime titled IdolM@ster. His hope was to take the better part of the creative staff and mold it into his better own staff. However, A1 and Trigger are like oil and water and we do not blend together really well. However, I do believe that this latest anime project will make a new great chemistry between us and hopefully both side of the creative group will teaming up together as a token to pay respect to their director. Anohana with mechs? Nice idea.”
Unfortunately, this is the end of the QnA article with Studio Trigger as time is the pure cause of less question could be asked. Lend me your thoughts on these recently new anime even though we should be talking about the gaming industry, however just a slight change of pace for all of our anime fans.
