Both of the two FPS juggernauts, Call Of Duty and Battlefield, are going to offer Battle Royale modes to keep with this year’s biggest hot new thing. With Call Of Duty Black Ops 4, it was announced earlier that the mode, Blackout, will be available as an open beta later this month.
Now, Game Informer has new details on Blackout, specifically the player count as of right now. Developers Treyarch have not revealed it specifically but now we have at least one target number: 80 players.
But the number may change at launch. “What’s really more important to us than a number is that the gameplay experience is as refined as it can be, that’s it the ideal perfect format for what players are going to play,” said co-studio head Dan Bunting. “So we’re starting with 80 players, but we’ve gone higher than that.”
Game Informer mentioned that Blackout has undergone testing with 100 players- the playercount popularised by PUBG and now Fortnite Battle Royale. But Treyarch is placing priority on the quality of the gameplay rather than hitting the 100-player count.
“Whenever we launch a game as a beta or whatever, that’s the beginning of something, ” he continued. “We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in. So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.”
So it’s 80 players for now, but the numbers may change when the game launches next month.
Call Of Duty Black Ops 4’s Blackout private beta is set to start on September 14th 10AM PT (September 15th, 1AM Malaysian Time +8GMT) for the PS4 and Xbox One. PS4 early access starts at September 10th (11th) on the same time. For PC, the open beta starts on September 15th (16th). The beta will end on September 17th (18th).
Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 will be out on October 12th for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
