Looks like the JRPG Bravely Default is getting a sequel. Announced at The Game Awards 2019, it’s called Bravely Default II.
Despite the name, there already was a second Bravely game, Bravely Second End Layer. That game was a direct follow-up to Bravely Default, featuring the same world and characters years after the events of the first game.
Bravely Default II, the third game in the series (assuming Bravely Second isn’t considered a spin-off game) features a new world, a new cast of Heroes of Light and this time, will be on the Switch instead of 3DS.
So think of it as how Final Fantasy does sequels- each numbered entry is a fresh slate with some recurring motif or gameplay mechanic. Only for the Bravely series, they did the direct sequel first before doing another numbered title.
The development team that made the original Bravely Default is back- Team Asano, which also made Octopath Traveler, and ClayTech Works is back. Music is done by Revo.
The Bravely community’s subreddit is already poking fun of the name, but maybe there’s more to it that we do not know yet. This is only a teaser, so let’s wait and see when Square Enix will drop more details on this JRPG sequel.
Bravely Default II will be out in 2020 exclusively for the Switch.
