The second of two paid DLC for Borderlands 3’s Season Pass 2 now has a release date. The Director’s Cut DLC adds a bunch of new things, but it’s a scattershot of features, unlike the campaign DLCs we see last year in Season Pass 1.
The main addition of the Director’s Cut is a new raid boss: Hemovorous the Invincible. A continuation of the past games having an “Invincible” boss, this can be accessed through a previously locked door on Pandora. It was always there since launch, now here’s the DLC to open it.
Alongside the raid boss is new series of murder mystery missions. You’ll be exploring new locations when completing these missions and it involves Ava (sigh) uncovering this mystery, in podcast form- so, more audio logs. The story told here does tie back to the main plot (which may have hinted on what’s in store already), and there is some new crime scene analysis mechanic to use. So it’s a bit more than just another mission thread based around Borderlands 3’s most divisive new character.
There’s also Vault Cards. Levelling up a card will get you to unlock a bunch of themed loot. And it requires you to do daily and weekly challenges. The Director’s Cut DLC will give access to three Vault Cards, with the first one available at launch of the DLC. The first Vault Card will feature “items that honour some of Borderlands’ most beloved fallen heroes” with the remaining two coming later this year. Vault Cards do not have an expiration date- so think of it as a perma-Battle Pass of sorts.
Of course, since it’s in the name, the Director’s Cut will include a bunch of behind-the-scenes content, from bloopers to cut content, and a gallery of art and footage that shows how the sausage is made.
The Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC launches on March 19, and can be purchased separately or as part of Season Pass 2. Season Pass 2 includes the previous Designer’s Cut DLC (which adds a fourth skill tree for the four Vault Hunters), the Final Form cosmetic skins, and the newly revealed Disciples Of The Vault cosmetic skins.
