Bohemia Interactive are the folks behind the military FPS sim Arma, both a successful game on its own and the game that spawned various mods into other games which includes DayZ and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The team has been incubating their own ‘mod’ for Arma 3- turning it into a 5v5 tactical combat game.
That project, initially titled Project Argo, will be released as Argo, and set to launch on June 22. It will also contain no micro-transactions. Yup, totally free.
Argo will take a much faster pace than the core Arma series, with a streamlined interface, progression with unlockables and a smaller playfield in the form of the first Arma’s map Malden. There is still a need for communication and teamwork, but it’s much more faster than Arma ever been.
Argo’s bread and butter mode would be the competitve 5v5 mode which comes in two flavours: capture and control, and attack and defend. There is also a 10 player co-op mode called Combat Patrol where you take down AI enemies as well as complete missions in a randomised open world.
In the spirit of modding and creativity, a trimmed down version of the 3D Scenario Editor seen in Arma 3 is available for use to create your own Argo game mods. Maybe it too can spawn its own Battle Royale genre, which have been gaining traction as of late.
The newly reimagined Malden map will also be released as free DLC for Arma 3 players.
Argo will be released exclusively on PC on June 22. While it’s completely free and has no micro-transactions, you can throw money at them with the Supporter Pack which includes the following perks:
- Set of 14 exclusive animations for the MVP screen
- Bundle of 22 unique apparel items, including facewear and headwear, and backpacks (these items are purely cosmetic and do not offer any gameplay benefits)
- Highlighted name in the leaderboards
- Access to premium servers that will be exclusively available for Argo Supporters
- Access to vehicles in Argo’s Scenario Editor
