Bioware Confirms Anthem Is Being “Reinvented”

Is Anthem dead? Bioware doesn’t want it to. Today, the developers have confirmed to be “reinventing” the game, similar to a previous report.

The letter from studio head Casey Hudson pinpoints the main critcisms of Anthem in its current state. “We have also heard your feedback that Anthem needs a more satisfying loot experience, better long-term progression, and a more fulfilling end game,” the post reads.

Anthem will undergo “a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion.” It will be “a fundamental work” that will be “reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting.”

As such, there will be no new major content drop in Anthem at the moment. There will be events, store refreshes and past content being cycled back in.

EA and Bioware seem to still have faith with the new IP. The core gameplay holds promise- the novelty of flying and Mass Effect Andromeda-style shooting is decent. But everything around it isn’t as good as other looter shooters in the market or any RPG Bioware made in the past.

Can they pull it off? Final Fantasy XIV and Diablo III managed to turn themselves around with a major overhaul. And EA have slowly made The Sims 4 a much better state from launch. So there’s a glimmer of hope Bioware may not share the fate of many other EA studios in the past.
