Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2 Getting Delisted

Here we go again. Three games by DICE will be delisted from digital stores. Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company and Battlefield Bad Company 2 will be gone from digital purchases starting April 28 2023, with online servers closing on December 8.

Offline features like single-player campaigns will remain playable for those that own the games.

Interestingly, when the news first broke, the blog post announcement also includes the mention of Mirror’s Edge as being delisted as well (screencaps of the mention can be found here and here, among many others that tweeted in response to the news). Which is odd. Not that it’s the one game that isn’t Battlefield being announced on the Battlefield page (it’s developed by DICE after all). But that the game’s only online feature was the online leaderboards, yet it too must be delisted.

The Battlefield Twitter said that it was an error and Mirror’s Edge remains available in digital storefronts.

Still, a lot of classic Battlefield games will be gone soon. Battlefield 1943 is an interesting download-only consoles-only direct sequel to Battlefield 1942, the game that put DICE and the Battlefield series on the map (and why the latest one is called Battlefield 2042).

Meanwhile, the Battlefield Bad Company series was the first to bring a campaign, before single-player campaigns become a standard in mainline Battlefield entries. Also, the Bad Company also had some spectacular destruction ability (which lives on in The Finals, a game by a studio with many ex-DICE veterans) and was the first game to use the Frostbite engine.

If you have any interest in trying out this game, the clock’s ticking. Get them now and before they’re gone.

EA has kept a list of games that they have had to “sunset” for various reasons in this page here, if you’re curious.
