Are you ready? O are you ready? With Elden Ring’s one and only expansion, Shadow Of The Erdtree, releasing in a week’s time, publisher Bandai Namco has gently remind players to get ready by completing a specific portion of the game ahead of the expansion’s release in two weeks time.
In a series of previews released ahead of the start of Summer Game Fest, it’s now confirmed that the starting point of Shadow Of The Erdtree requires players to unlock the Cocoon Of The Empyrean Site Of Grace, which requires beating the optional boss Mohg, Lord Of Blood.
On Steam, as pointed out by content creator Cohh Carnage, only 37.8% of player have unlocked the achievement signifying their victory over Mohg.
We can also confirm that at the time of writing, the same achievement on PlayStation was unlocked by less than 35% of players. We are unable to check and verify the achievements on Xbox.
UPDATE 14/06023: Screentime reported the player percentage of players that has unlocked the achievement/trophy for beating Mohg as follows:
- Steam: 37.8%
- PlayStation: 34.7%
- Xbox: 17.7%
Fans have been speculating about this point of the game being the start of the DLC even before Shadow Of The Erdtree was announced. There is a long chain of optional content, all of which can be skipped, that ends with the boss fight of Mohg. At the Site Of Grace unlocked after the boss fight, there lies the ominous large egg with a hand poking out of it, and curiously not named after the Mohg like every other shardbearer boss’s Sites.
The reveal trailer for Shadow Of The Erdtree has hinted that this may be the start point of the new expansion- there’s a line saying “touch the withered arm and travel to the Land Of Shadow”.
If you think less than 40% of the playerbase are ready for the big, hyped-up DLC seems to be a low number, it’s not. Elden Ring has confirmed that there are now 25,000,000 players across all platforms. So assuming that 40% of the playerbase are ready on all platforms, that’s 10,000,000 players.
So rest assured, there’s more than a million players that potentially will be playing Shadow Of The Erdtree, hopefully leaving some good messages to guide and/or misguide them in the Land Of Shadows.
Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion releases on June 21 for PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
