Last year, Acer introduced SpatialLabs TrueGame, an app that plays select video games with stereoscopic 3D. It’s glasses-less 3D, but you need a device with the right camera array for it to work, like the Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition gaming laptops.
At CES 2023, Acer reveals that the app has gotten a major update, now supporting 3D Ultra Mode.
This new mode should “offer gamers the ultimate 3D gaming experience with its enhanced stereo rendering capabilities, projecting images with depth and life-like 3D geometry.”
The update also adds 3D Sense, where players can pick different 3D stereo effect configs to suit their preferences.
3D tech in gaming has seen a boom in the last decade with Sony offering 3D options for the PS3 and Nintendo releasing the Nintendo 3DS, a handheld with stereoscopic 3D. Then, it went bust.
So it’s fascinating to see Acer leverage the SpatialLabs tech, first used for productivity and work, as a gaming feature, despite most of the industry already moving past the trend.
SpatialLabs has since continued adding more games to support the 3D feature, including God Of War (2018), Forza Horizon 5, and Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. A list of compatible games can be found here.
