A New Skate Game Is In The Works

After years of memes and hashtag campaigns, finally they’re doing it. EA is making a new Skate game. This was revealed at the end of the recent EA Play Live 2020 stream.

“I can’t believe you’ve commented this into existence!” said Cuz Perry, creative director for Skate, referencing the many comments from EA’s social media that kept asking for a new entry to the skateboarding game series.

“We’ve been waiting years, honestly, to make the right game, at the right time, with the right idea,” said Deran Cheung, game director for Skate. He added that it’s still early days in development. So this is more of a gestural announcement with nothing to show.

The pair of directors stop short of saying #skate4, which would have made more people lose their minds. But an assurance that a new Skate game is in the works is still great news.

Skateboarding games are coming back. Indies like Skater XL and Session are filling that Skate-shaped hole of more sim-like skateboarding games. And Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 are getting remastered. So it’s a good time to say Skate is still alive.
