God Of War Laufey was previously announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 set to be released on February 16, 2027.
This will no go through, as developer Santa Monica Studio has now announced the game is delayed.
“We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to the fullest potential,” the statement reads, suggesting the game is at the final stages of development already.
An additional three months just to polish up a release is quite a lot of time, but thankfully there’s no GTA VI-sized release coming in early 2027 where other games need to compete with.
February 2027 will still see a big game release in the form of Playground Games’ Fable. It’s an Xbox Game Studio title, but one that isn’t Xbox console exclusive like some titles have started to become again (see Gears Of War: E-Day).
God Of War Laufey was revealed last year. Set concurrently during the events of God Of War (2018), this title focuses on Kratos’ second dead wife, the titular Laufey, who mothered his son Atreus. While Kratos and Atreus goes on a bonding journey to honour Laufey’s last wish, she herself is off on an adventure in the Everywhen where mythological gods (including other gods of war) resides. And she’s off fighting them, with air launchers and moves Kratos probably (and fans very much) wish he can still pull off.
PlayStation Studio’s first release of 2027 remains to be Until Dawn 2, releasing this January.
God Of War Laufey will now launch on May 20, 2027 for the PS5.
