Now here’s a deep cut of a 3D platformer. Kao The Kangaroo, by Polish developers Tate Multimedia, is making a comeback this year.
Kao (pronounced “kay- oh”) The Kangaroo was first released on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, with its last entry in 2005. Now it’s making a return in 2022, and actually looks decent.
Kao will pick up his magical boxing gloves as he goes on a 3D platforming adventure to confront “famous fighting masters who are under the influence of disturbing, dark power” and find out where his sister is, and what happened to his long-lost father.
The trailer is also decent. Not only because Junior Senior is playing in the background, but it looks on par with the recent 3D platformers. If the core gameplay (fit for the whole family) is as strong as how this is being unveiled this might be a nice surprise in the making.
Kao The Kangaroo is aiming for a Summer 2022 release, for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
