2K Will Continue To Work On Borderlands Series With Gearbox After Embracer Group Merge

Gearbox have embraced the Embracer Group in a deal that can reach $1 billion USD (but as it stands, worth $363 million USD). But that doesn’t mean all previous relationships with other publishers will be stopped.

Gearbox Software develops the Borderlands games with publisher 2K. Though with Gearbox joining Embracer is one of eight operating groups, this relationship will continue on.

Responding to MP1st, a 2K spokesperson confirmed this by saying: “The merger does not change 2K’s relationship with Gearbox nor our role as the publisher for the Borderlands IP or any other projects we are currently working on with the studio.”

Additionally, the recent press conference by Embracer Group, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stated how the relationship with 2K for Borderlands will continue.

“If we’re thinking specifically about Borderlands, we love our relationship with Take-Two and the 2K Games label,” he said. “We are committed to working together through all of the known and planned Borderlands work we have going on.”

Looks like Gearbox still have some level of freedom despite joining up with Embracer. So for Borderlands fans, at least in the near future, we have nothing to worry about. Both parties still want to continue this working relationship.
