Embracer Group Acquires Aspyr Media, Merge With Gearbox, Easybrain

Embracer Group, the parent company that THQ Nordic is a part, continues to… embrace more companies under their banner.

Today, they have announced two merges, and one acquisition.

The one acquisition is of Aspyr Media. The port specialists (in particular for Mac OS PCs) of 140 developers will be under the Saber Interactive banner. The deal is worth $100 million USD (60 million of that is paid by cash). Aspyr has several games under development, including “one major ongoing game development project with [an] approximately budget of USD 70 million”, states the press release. These projects will continue under the new ownership.

The other two are merges with Gearbox and Easybrain. These two will continue to operate as an operating group under Embracer. The Gearbox Entertainment Company, as it’s formally named, includes Borderlands developer Gearbox Software and their publishing arm Gearbox Publishing. The merge with Gearbox is worth $363 million USD, $188 USD of that is paid in cash.

Mobile developers Easybrain will also merge with Embracer Group. This is the biggest deal of the three, worth $640 USD million.

With the two mergers, Embracer Group now has eight operation groups namely THQ Nordic, Koch Media (Deep Silver), Coffee Stain, Amplifier Game Invest, Saber Interactive, Deca Games, Gearbox and Easybrain.

Long live the lich king.
