You Can’t Bring Over Wacky Collab Skins From Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 Into Black Ops 7

A new community post for Call Of Duty Black Ops 7 has announced something that fans of the annual FPS series would be pleasantly surprised with.

Players cannot “carry forward” Operators, Operator Skins and Weapons from Blacks Ops 6 into Black Ops 7.

“Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting,” the blog post reads. “That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7.”

This based on feedback where fans are not too keen with seeing way too many immersive-breaking collab skins. It was funny for a while, but now Call Of Duty has Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator, Seth Rogen in a bright plaid suit as himself, Jay and Silent Bob, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the hooded people from Squid Game, the slasher movie villain Michael Myers, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead, wrestler Rhea Ripley, Lilith from Diablo, Skeletor, Lara Croft, Spawn and Nicki Minaj as herself, to name a few. That’s not to mention Operator skins, which even includes a skin to turn an Operator into a human-scale RX-78-2 Gundam.

The Operators, Operator Skins and Weapons will still be accessible in Call Of Duty Warzone, the battle royale spin-off that remains associated with the annual Call Of Duty games. So past purchases of those wacky collab skins are still usable in Call Of Duty. Just not in Black Ops 7.

One could see this as a response to rival FPS game Battlefield 6, which earlier commits to having “grounded” cosmetics in the upcoming modern military shooter—specifically ruling out Nicki Minaj, a reference to Call Of Duty’s cosmetic choices.

Wacky, unexpected collab skins can be cool and headline-grabbing, but when it’s done too much it becomes at risk of losing the original game’s entire identity. Unless the game’s entire identity is breaking barriers with collabs like Fortnite is, too much collabs can ruin the fun for folks looking for a specific, immersive experience.

It goes to show that it’s both nice to incorporate fan feedback, as enforced by looming competition.

The community blog post talks more about what other fan feedback has been incorporated, and their efforts in fighting against cheaters through Ricochet. Read more here.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 7 will be out on November 14 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store/”Xbox PC”,Battle.net) and Xbox Series X|S.
