With The Season Still On Hold, Here’s How Codemasters Determine Car Performance For F1 2020

The F1 2020 game has been announced, and from the looks of it, the game will be released before the actual season will ever start.

The F1 games have been pretty good at determining the performance of each team based on the current season, and it helps that the game launches in mid-season, where the pecking order of the grid can be seen more clearly.

So, how does developer Codemasters determine each F1 team’s performance for the F1 2020 game, with the season still on hold?

F1 pundit Marc Priestly received question in his occurring “Ask Elvis” show on YouTube, and have reached out Codemasters for comment regarding this.

Here is Codemasters’ response, attributed to the game designer:

“So far we’re going off the end of last year, the potential best times from testing. Plus, we’ve spoken with the team at F1 to see if our expectations match with theirs. As always, we’ll launch and then update accordingly.”

In other words, the way the car performance is balanced to replicate the grid order has not changed dramatically. While the season may not have started, there’s still data from the pre-season testing to base the car performance level for the ten competing teams.

And should the game be off the mark, expect an update that will make it more in line with their real-life counterparts.

F1 2020, the game, will be available this July. With the real-life season still on hold due to the gloabal pandemic, F1 is having Virtual Grand Prix races using the current F1 2019 game, with several of the real-life F1 drivers participating.
