Valve are indeed working multiple games. This shouldn’t come as a surprise if you follow the many Valve leak and cancelled games stories. But in a new interview by New Zealand TV news bulletin 1 News, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell confirms they are working on new games.
“Yes, we definitely have games in development that we’re gonna be announcing,” Newell said to 1 News. “It’s fun to ship games.”
Valve are more known as the company that owns Steam, makes VR headsets and updates Dota 2 and CS:GO. Before Steam, Valve are highly regarded for their revolutionary single-player games Half-Life and Half-Life 2.
Last year, the developers released a new VR-only prequel to Half-Life 2, Half-Life: Alyx.
“Alyx was great – to be back doing single-player games, that created a lot of momentum inside of the company to do more of that,” Newell added.
Of course, no exact games were revealed here. But now we know Valve are keen to ship new games.
Newell is currently based in New Zealand. What supposed to be a vacation trip after the Half-Life: Alyx launch turned into a long stay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He’s also been contributing to the country by organising a charity concert, launching a gnome to space live on stream while donating to New Zealand’s Starship Children’s Hospital, and creating a new racing team, which explains why he has been a subject of many interviews from New Zealand media.
