Witch The Showdown Combines One-On-One Character Action Duels With Deckbuilding

If you’re looking up if anyone has combined deckbuilding rougelikes with character action, the answer to that is yes with the release of Witch The Showdown. This is a new game developed by Japan-based indie studio Citales Games.

In a world where science and magic have merged into the same thing, you select one of the many witches and help them go through a fighting tournament, facing off against rivals, classmates and friends.

Witch The Showdown has parries and dodges, all done in real-time, to build your mana. And with mana, you can string attack combos and use your deck of cards to press the advantage.

The character doesn’t move around though, which is why the official description of the game say it’s a “high-speed parry action” game rather than a full-on spectacle fighter/ character action game. But it sure has the elements that will intrigue a character action fan who fancies a bit of card battles.

In the down time between battles, players can get more cards and acessories from the in-game shop, do some deckbuilding, and strengthen the chosen character via in-game events.

Witch The Showdown is part of So-Fu, an accelerator program for indie games in Japan. For those attending Tokyo Game Show 2024, the game will be playable on the show floor in Halls 9-10 Indie Game Corner 09-C35 (iGi/So-Fu booth).

Witch The Showdown has no release date yet, but you can wishlist it on PC (Steam).
