The next big content update for free-to-play looter-shooter Warframe is coming this June.
The Warframe Isleweaver update will see players continue the story of Warframe 1999, but outside of Holvania circa 1999. Instead, we’re heading back to paradoxical land of Duviri in search of one Major Neci Rusalka, the baddie (who’s also clearly a baddie, in that other sense of the word as well) last seen in The Hex story quest.
But more importantly, the Isleweaver update will bring the 61st warframe in Warframe: spider-inspired Oraxia.
Finally, spider frame is real.
A long-time gag within the community of as seen in various developer Digital Extremes’ livestreams, the joke about a metaphorical arachnid-based warframe being in the works has been a constant talking point between chat members and the development team, jokingly (producing clips with titles like this), finally has a payoff, delivered in front of a live audience at PAX East, which the latest Devstream 188 showcase was presented.
“Delivering on longtime community requests is one of my absolute favorite parts of working on this game,” said Warframe Creative Director Rebecca Ford. “Players have been shouting from the mountaintops for us to create a ‘Spiderframe’ for years, and Oraxia’s officially here!”
Oraxia can siphon health and energy, ensnare enemies in webs, summon spiderlings and climb walls “only like a spider can”, so that’s a new mobility option for the game with ridiculous mobility options already.
This isn’t the first time a seemingly innocuous joke by a chat member read out loud by the developer turned into real content for the game. One of the recent ones involves a silly question of whether Warframes can get pregnant. Yeah. Warframe’s community is built different.
Alongside the Isleweaver free content update, the following was also announced:
- New Murmur enemies
- New Clan Operation, Eight Claw
- Valkyr and Vauban Heirloom skins
- Valkyr rework
- Yareli Prime
The Warframe Isleweaver update will go live later this June.
