The month of December 2020 will see Civilization VI adding a free content update for all players.
The update will include a City-State Picker. This allows you to specify which city-state will spawn in your next game, not just how many. So you can now have games where all the city-states only boost science output if you befriend them. Or ban all cultural city-states to make a culture win harder (but still possible). Or a mix and match of your own preference.
This is similar to the August 2020 update which added a Natural Wonder Picker. It’s a small addition in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a nice-to-have addition still.
Alongside that, the December 2020 update will have some balance changes. This will include “a significant balance pass on Social Policies and the Tech and Civic boosts”, and improvement to the AI. AI civs will less like make demands when they have a weaker military than you, or are losing against you in a war. And there’s a “Stop Asking Me” button being added to just ignore all requests from other civs. Nice.
Next month, based on the New Frontier Roadmap, will see another civ being added as DLC (or as part of the New Frontier Pass). The dev diary video above might have given a big hint of what to expect.
Full patch notes will be available when the update launches on December 18 for the PS4, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
