The 5th DLC of Civilization VI’s New Frontier Pass has been revealed. And the two big addition is the new Vietnam civ and new leader Kublai Khan.
The new Vietnam civ is being teased as a “culture and terrain civ” and its leader described as “a fierce warrior” and “known for their bravery, guerilla tactics, and deadly temper”. Vietnam joins Indonesia and the Khmer as playable civs hailing from Southeast Asia, with Brunei and Singapore appearing as non-playable city-states.
As expected, the New Frontier Pass will be adding a new leader to an existing civ, but more interestingly, they can be a leader of two different civs. Joining Eleanor of Aquitaine is Kublai Khan, a two-civ leader that can be in charge of Mongolia, or China.
There will also be a new district added, the Preserve, which adds appeal.
More concrete details of Kublai Khan and Vietnam will be revealed in a detailed First Look video.
Alongside that, a free update will add a new game mode: Monopolies & Corporations. This game made is all about making that sweet, sweet gold. Duplicate luxuries in this game mode is not to be straight-up traded, but make industries that provides big buffs to its home cities, plus Great Merchant points. Industries can level up to be corporations, and make Products for storage or trade. And yes, you can monopolise a luxury, which gives you even more gold, and Tourism output.
Civ VI doesn’t have an economic victory, but this mode gives in more depth to gold production. You will need the Rise And Fall expansion to have access to all the luxury resource options for this more, but it’s optional. You only need the base game to play Monopolies & Corporations.
The Vietnam and Kublai Khan Pack DLC for Civilization VI will be launching on January 29 for the PS4, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It’s priced at RM38 a piece, or can be purchased as part of the New Frontier Pass.
