The Sega Genesis Mini Is Officially Coming To Southeast Asia, Priced At RM359 For Malaysia

Another mini-console to capture your nostalgia is coming your way. The Sega Genesis Mini (or in Japan and Europe, the Sega Mega Drive Mini) will be releasing on September 19th, 2019.

This includes Southeast Asia as well.

Epicsoft Asia Pte. Ltd. will be responsible for bringing the Sega Genesis Mini to Southeast Asia, which will launch simultaneously worldwide on the same date.

The mini-console is 55% smaller than the original and will include 2 USB controllers (with the same 3-button layout), HDMI cable and a power cable.

The Sega Genesis Mini contains a whopping 42 games, including brand-new release of Darius and Tetris, both never before released during the original’s console lifecycle.

The list is as follows:

  • Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
  • Alisia Dragoon
  • Altered Beast
  • Beyond Oasis
  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Columns
  • Comix Zone
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Darius
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Eternal Champions
  • Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Golden Axe
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Landstalker
  • Light Crusader
  • Mega Man: The Wily Wars
  • Monster World 4
  • Phantasy Star 4: The End of the Millennium
  • Road Rash 2
  • Shining Force
  • Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Strider
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Tetris
  • Thunder Force 3
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Vectorman
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Wonder Boy in Monster World
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck

This is not to be confused with the Mega Drive Mini, which does have a specific Asian version and with a different set of games.

The Sega Genesis Mini will be priced at RM359 for Malaysia. For the rest of Southeast Asia, the pricing is as follows:

  • Singapore: 119.90 SGD
  • Thailand: 3,390 THB
  • Indonesia: 1,499,000 IDR
  • Philippines: 4,590 PHP

For reference, the pricing in the USA is $79.90 USD.

This is not something we expected to see coming here, considering the popularity of Sega consoles back in the heyday is not as big as, say, Sony’s Playstation or Nintendo’s NES and SNES.

Still, it’s nice that for you Sega kids out there in Southeast Asia, there’s a simpler route on acquiring the Sega Genesis Mini. So long as the scalpers didn’t get them first.

Participating retailers should open pre-orders beginning today, with online pre-orders only becoming available as we get closer to its launch date.
