Out of the shadow, Ubisoft has dropped the full release of The Rogue Prince Of Persia. A shadowdrop, if you will.
Announced during the Xbox @ Gamescom broadcast, Ubisoft and indie developers Evil Empire (the current caretakers of influential roguelite Dead Cells) have now released the 2D action-platforming roguelite on Xbox Series X|S as well as on “Xbox On PC” (PC via Microsoft Store) and Xbox Cloud. The game’s also on Game Pass now.
The Rogue Prince Of Persia is also now available on PS5 and on Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect. It will be coming to Switch and Switch 2 later this year.
The Rogue Prince Of Persia, a clever title for this roguelite take on action-platformer series, has been on Steam Early Access for a little more than a year, and now it’s ready to bare the 1.0 moniker as a full release. It certainly changed a lot, including a whole art rework. The game now has a more grounded colour palette in contrast to the, well, contrasting, colour choice of the launch version which see the Prince portrayed with purple skin.
Set in “a beautifully reimagined Persian kingdom,” you play as the Prince who must navigate procedurally-generated levels, find secrets, and meet characters, all in an effort to undo a mistake that doomed the kingdom. There’s over 100 different weapons and medallions to keep each run interesting, but expect a lot of 2D parkour action, from wall-running to trap dodging.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Steam community for embracing The Rogue Prince of Persia during its early access journey,” said Lucie Dewagnier, Game Director at Evil Empire. “Thanks to their feedback, we’ve delivered over fifteen major updates—introducing new biomes, weapons, enemies, and gameplay systems. Their passion helped us shape the game into the fast, fluid, and replayable experience we always envisioned. We can’t wait for more people to discover our game in its final form and inevitably bob their head to the banger soundtrack.”
Prince Of Persia fans had a recent good release with Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown from last year. That was a 2D Metroidvania (search-action game) by Ubisoft. But for those who prefer another take on a 2D POP game, with a roguelite twist which swaps out highly intricate level design with the randomness of procedural designed ones, The Rogue Prince Of Persia is the one you’re looking for.
The Rogue Prince Of Persia is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Ubisoft Connect) and Xbox Series X|S. It will launch on Switch and Switch 2 later this year.
