The Original Quake Now Has A Remaster And A Sneaky Price Increase

At Quakecon 2021, Bethesda announced that the original Quake is getting a remaster and releasing on consoles.

The remaster, developed by Nightdive Studios, adds enhanced graphics, all the expansion packs, added back the original soundtrack composed by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor plus a new episode,” Dimension of the Machine” developed by MachineGames (the folks that worked on the newer Wolfenstein games).

Quake 64, 4-player split-screen and online multiplayer (with cross-play support) are also included in this remaster.

The good news is, if you already own Quake on Steam, all of this comes for free. But if you don’t, you have missed out on getting Quake on the cheap, as with the release of the remaster, Bethesda has sneakily increased the price.

The original Quake on Steam retailed at RM20, but now with the remaster, it’s now up to RM39.50. This isn’t just a Malaysia thing either, according to SteamDB, the game now retails at $9.99 USD as compared to $4.99 USD before the remaster’s release.

If you were like us wondering why of all the discounted Bethesda games during Quakecon 2021 Quake is the only one not on discount, well, now we know why.

Still, the ground-breaking game famous for ushering the era of full 3D FPS, the altar in which the new wave of boomer/retro shooters pray to and the game that shatters the magical dream team at id Software after its tumultuous development deserves a nice remastering.

Plus, the remaster is also available on consoles too. Living up to the weird ads from years ago proclaiming “Quake is for everyone”.

Quake is out now on PS4 (including PS Store Asia), PC (Steam), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
