A barrage of new The Last Of Us Part II info has been reported, and one of the shocking ones is that it won’t include a multiplayer mode.
The Factions multiplayer mode is an interesting inclusion for the original game, with a meta-layer of base building on top of the tight gameplay. But The Last Of Us Part II will be, like most Sony’s first-party games, focusing on a big single-player campaign.
That said, Naughty Dog has clarified that this is not the last time we see of Factions. In a tweet, the developers clarify their decision to not have multiplayer in their next game.
“As development began on the evolution of our Factions mode from The Last Of Us Part I, the vision of the team grew beyond an additional mode that could be included with our enormous single-player campaign,” the statement reads. “Wanting to support both visions, we made the difficult choice that The Last Of Us Part II would not include an online mode.
So it looks like Naughty Dog has bigger plans for Factions. The statement continued to reassure that “you will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition.” A stand-alone multiplayer title, perhaps?
But for those that felt bummed, don’t be. The original Last Of Us will be free for active PS Plus subscribers in October and the multiplayer mode is still as good as it was, with potentially more new players hopping in.
The Last Of Us Part II will be out on February 21st, 2020 for the PS4.
