Backlog
noun
- an accumulation of uncompleted work or matters needing to be dealt with.
Have you ever stepped back from your chair and think to yourself, “Man, my backlog of games is getting out of hand”, moments before booting up a game that you’ve completed already but ready for another playthrough?
Well, I’m guilty as charged on that part, with 30+ odd games uncompleted on my PS4, which includes past releases and those game that had released this year. And as the year steamrolls its way towards December, there are a bunch of games I could/should have played and reviewed but haven’t for one reason or another.
So to circumvent this issue for us here at GM, I am here to kickstart the newest series for GamerMatters.com, The Backlog.
The Backlog series ensures that a bunch of games that were released this year (but we haven’t played or could make the review come out on time) could be eligible for our coveted Game of The Year awards and also have us give out opinion and thoughts on it, without the need for creating a proper review. Heck, we could even cover games that were forgotten so now we can jog your good (or bad) memories of the games in hand.
So without further ado, here are the first two.
MotoGP 19
It’s fair to say that out of the motorsport series that have their own game, MotoGP is the most inconsistent series of them all. One year it’s quite solid with an enjoyable career mode that has a Create-A-Team feature where you can ride for your own created team to the current form (From MGP 18) where you only can pick and choose your team/place to start. Alleviating the need to race at the bottom categories, but where the fun in that?
But the most inconsistent of them all is the handling model, where the last one I’ve played is quite fun with a nice sim-cade handling but MGP 19 is more on the understeer side with the handling not very accurate, making mistakes more costly, fine for esports but for a casual player like me, it’s a no-go really. Realistic handling doesn’t translate to fun gameplay sometimes.
One thing I can praise them is the graphics/ livery option editor. It’s not GT Sports level of customizable parts but wow the stuff I’ve seen players have done with the limited options are impressive.
In short, I don’t recommend it but if you do want to try it out, I suggest getting it on a sale. Or get MotoGP 17, that’s better.

Resident Evil 2 Remake
RE2M have replicated something that the original game, the 4th, 7th, and Revelation have done perfectly, which is conveying horror when it needs to be and make the downtime the best thing since meeting Ada Wong for the first time (well, for Leon anyway).
It stops and start action in the face of fighting face-eating zombies, all the while Mister X blasting “X going to give it to ya’ ” in his invisible Walkman that’s also tandem with him chasing you down, makes this one of the best survival horror game of this generation.
Some gripes like low ammo and health packs distributions is not a surprise considering this is THE Survival Horror genre creator so those points are moot but one thing that bugs me quite a bit is the trivial map design towards the place. Sure, I understand that this is harking back to the good old days but it’s quite confusing if you kept moving at the same place san the amount of bullets, but I digress, backtracking is part of the charm of the late 90s games, be it good or bad.
All in all, get this game. It exactly fills your need for survival horror right until whatever Death Stranding is, comes out.

Conclusion
So, here’s a snippet for something all of us at GM will be utilizing soon. Think of this as those small reviews you used to read from the entertainment side of the newspapers as you wait for your turn at the barbershops or whatever. It’s short and sweet and will fit a short reading time. I hope you’ll enjoy our newest concept!
Until then, have a good day 🙂
